When Life Happens

This summer has been one of those pivotal times in my life (and in the lives of those close to me) where everything shifts all at once as though time stepped on the gas and we are propelled forward.

Sickness, and death, and funerals. Pregnancy, and birth, and new life. Gatherings, and celebrations, and mourning. Engagements (including mine!) and weddings to come. Family visiting from far away which triggers the commotion of greetings and goodbyes and then questions as to when (and if) we will all see each other again.

I realize that these significant life-events are happening every day, simultaneously to millions of people all across the world, but when they rain down all at once the sound of time is deafening and everything speeds up.

Why mention this here? Because sometimes it’s difficult in the torrent to find a moment to breathe and be creative. But really, all of this tumult and emotion is the perfect fuel for our creativity. It’s easy to use such times as an excuse to put our projects on hold, but shouldn’t we be channeling all of these human experiences into our creative pursuits? I will try… after a nap.
