Leaving Space

A comment Jake made about a song we were listening to intrigued me. He criticized it by saying that there was no space in the song.

Compare a song to a room. Even if the room were filled with the finest things, it would still be a pointless room if you couldn’t move through it or reside comfortably within it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about song structure and this idea of “space.” When does a song feel too naked and at what point is it burdened with too much?
