Duet

When I saw Gentlemen Prefer Blonds for the first time I instantly fell in love with the song that Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell sing together near the end of the film called When Love Goes Wrong.

Their voices are luscious, blending together like butter and syrup — soft and slow, effortless and sweet.

I learned the basic melody on my ukulele and started trying to put the song’s distinct pieces into one simple ballad.

What I really want to do is perform/record this song with another vocalist and layer two distinct voices — not just the same voice singing two different parts.

In order to make a case for the song I did a rough recording using just two tracks — letting the ukulele bleed through the first vocal track.

It needs work to find the structure, but I’m really fond of it and hope that I can take it farther than just this sad little recording.

Here is a link to the scene in the film that features this song.
