Surges & Scarcities

Don’t Be Sad on Christmas

My favorite holiday songs are the classics. There are few songs from this limited genre written after the 60s that don’t irritate me.

However, several years ago my sister introduced me to Sufjan Stevens’ incredible 5-disc set of holiday music (both originals and covers) called Songs for Christmas and I was immediately entranced. He perfectly captures the gamut of holiday emotions from pure delight to utter discomfort.

So last winter I wrote and recorded my first Christmas song which was heavily influenced by the style and approach of Sufjan Stevens.

Concerned more with comfort than sound quality, I went ahead and recorded both ukulele and vocal tracks right in front of my crackling wood stove.
