I’ve discovered that coming up with song lyrics becomes a lot less grueling when I detach myself from them. For this song, I came up with a simple mythology involving a Puget Sound sea monster and the words wrote themselves. I let go and allowed myself to be possessed by the story. It’s comforting to know that I don’t always have to dig around in my personal experiences in order to write a song.
